In a recent study done by the Netherlands Olympic Committee, 64% of Dutch athletes were found to be Vitamin D, deficient. The low vitamin D levels may be associated with decreased muscle strength and muscle protein synthesis, both of which may impact athletic performance. Scientists added that an insufficiency can be connected by three months of supplementation with 2,200 IU per day of vitamin D. Once sufficient levels have been met, a does of 400 IU is enough.
